Abia govt demolishes kidnappers hideouts, arrests suspects

The Abia State Authorities in collaboration with the State Police Command has demolished two buildings within the state used to accommodate kidnap victims in several elements of the State.

DAILY POST stories that the demolition executed according to the Abia State Anti-Kidnap Legislation of 2016 as amended, affected a bungalow situated in Eziala-Nsulu, Isialangwa North Native Authorities Space of the State and seven, Oma Shut, Reverse New Life, Uratta in Aba South LGA.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede, whereas chatting with newsmen at one of many demolition websites, revealed that the Safety Adviser to the Governor of Abia State, Captain Awa Udensi (Rtd) stated the home at Eziala-Nsulu was used as a den for kidnappers to maintain their victims.

Udensi stated the Police had in February, arrested three suspected criminals and recovered regionally made riffles within the second constructing situated at Omalozu Avenue, off Uratta Highway.

He disclosed that two of the three suspected kidnappers arrested by the police have confessed to the crime.

Captain Udensi additional revealed that in interrogations by the police, the suspected criminals arrested from Omalozu Avenue, Aba, voluntarily confessed to the crime of kidnapping with names of their previous victims.

The Safety Adviser defined that the penalty for kidnapping is demise upon conviction, whereas any constructing used as a hideout for kidnapping can be demolished according to the legislation.

In response to him, the demolition would function a lesson to those that use their homes or avail their homes as kidnappers’ hideouts.

He knowledgeable that the current authorities below the management of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has zero tolerance for crime, including that the Governor has maintained synergy between the federal government and the safety businesses within the State in direction of defending its residents.

Udensi urged landlords and tenants to verify they fish out suspected criminals amongst them by reporting them to the police.
