Apprehensive by the rising menace of drug abuse in Nigeria, the Nationwide Drug Legislation Enforcement Company (NDLEA) has indicated its willingness to determine scientific laboratories throughout the 36 States of the Federation.
Chairman and Chief Government Officer, Brig Common Buba Marwa, who was represented by the Director-Common of the NDLEA, raised the difficulty in a paper he introduced to the Senate Committee on Medicine and Narcotics on Thursday at a public listening to
the Senate Committee on Medicine and Narcotics held a public listening to to garner views from stakeholders because it prepares to amend the Nationwide Drug Legislation Enforcement Act, 2004 (Modification) Invoice of 2021.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Hezekiah Ayuba Dimka promised to expeditiously take care of the result of the listening to, noting that drug legal guidelines should be wholistic to take care of drug abuse.
The Chairman mentioned part 4 of the principal act which offers with powers of the company present alternatives for modification, therefore, it needs modification for the institution of drug laboratories throughout 36 states of the Federation and the FederalCapitalTerritory.
“Part 4 of the Principal Act coping with ‘Particular Powers of the Company’ is proposed to be amended by inserting a brand new subsection.
“It mandates the Company to determine the scientific laboratories within the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
He maintained that NDLEA would have the capability to speedily examine and prosecute drug-related circumstances if there have been laboratories throughout the nation.
He urged the Nationwide Meeting to contemplate a budgetary provision to allow the company to obtain gear.
