President Muhammadu Buhari has given the Niger Delta Improvement Fee (NDDC) one week to pay the beneficiaries of the fee’s scholarship scheme.
NDDC’s Director of Company Affairs, Charles Odili, revealed this after delivering the administration’s invitation to the president, to inaugurate the 29-kilometre Ogbia-Nembe Street in Bayelsa State.
In an announcement, Odili stated the scholars could be paid by the top of the week following Buhari’s order.
He defined that the delay was as a result of sudden loss of life of former Appearing Government Director, Finance and Administration, Ibanga Etang, in Might.
“Below the fee’s finance protocol, solely the chief director (finance) and the chief director (initiatives) can signal for the discharge of funds from the fee’s domiciliary accounts with the Central Financial institution of Nigeria,” Odili famous.
“With the loss of life of Chief Etang, the remittance has to await the appointment of a brand new EDFA.
“Senator Akpabio, the Honourable Minister, stated President Buhari who has been briefed on the protest by college students on the Nigerian Excessive Fee in London, has ordered that each one stops be pulled to pay the scholars by the top of this week. We anticipate a brand new EDFA to be appointed this week. As quickly as that’s accomplished, they’d all be paid.”
The beneficiaries of NDDC’s scholarship within the UK, on Monday protested over the non-payment of their tuition charges and allowances in a single yr.
The scholars gathered on the Nigerian Excessive Fee in London, to specific their displeasure over “negligence of their welfare”.
