The Impartial Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) has vowed to not give up to what it known as ‘electoral banditry’ aimed toward discrediting the electoral course of and returning pre-determined outcomes.
Mr. Festus Okoye, INEC Nationwide Commissioner and Chairman, Info and Voter Schooling Committee, made the vow in an interview with NAN, on Sunday, in Abuja.
Okoye was talking on the choice to indefinitely droop the Saturday Ekiti East State Constituency 1 election held in Ekiti State.
He stated that the choice was essential to protect the integrity of the nation’s elections, in addition to safeguard the lives of residents.
Okoye stated that for the fee to proceed with any election within the face of brazen violence that had compromised the integrity of an election, would quantity to dereliction of its electoral obligation.
He famous that the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti State (REC) issued a press release detailing the extent of violence unleased on voters, election officers and safety personnel on election obligation.
The INEC commissioner stated that the fee had bolstered the state of affairs report of the REC for Ekiti by imposing an indefinite postponement of the state constituency 1 by-election.
