The Oyo State Police command has invited a complainant, Mr. Ganiyu Omirinde for interrogation.
Omirinde’s invitation by the police is sequel to the allegations he leveled towards males of the State Police command over the actions of Isikilu Wakili, a suspect who was arrested for his alleged involvement within the killings, kidnappings and assaults on harmless residents in Ibarapa geo-political zone of the State.
DAILY POST remembers that the Police had earlier invited members of the general public to provide them with proof that may help the prosecution of the 70-year-old Wakili.
Our correspondent learnt that Omirinde, a youth chief from Ayete in an interview printed in a newspaper accused police of working with Wakili.
Omirinde alleged that complainants are sometimes detained and bailed with Fifty Thousand Naira (#50,000.00) which has resulted in residents’ refusal to additional lodge complaints on any Fulani/herders case within the space.
The State Police command has nevertheless, mentioned that it has invited the complainant for additional data on his allegations towards the police.
Public Relations Officer of the State Police command, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi in a press release made accessible to DAILY POST on Saturday added that the eye of the Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, has been drawn to the allegation.
Fadeyi maintained that the allegation made by Omirinde towards the police necessitated his invitation by the Police.
He mentioned, “The eye of the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Ngozi Onadeko, has been drawn to the information printed in web page 3 of The Punch Newspaper on Monday fifteenth March, 2021 about an interview with one Ganiyu Omirinde, a youth chief from Ayete Group, on the arrest of Iskilu Wakili and the allegation that complainants are sometimes detained and a bail of Fifty thousand naira (#50,000.00) is demanded which has resulted in residents’ refusal to additional lodge complaints on any Fulani/herders case within the Divisions in that axis.
“Consequent upon this, the Commissioner of Police had directed that Ganiyu Omirinde be invited to listen to his half performed within the misrepresented information publication. It was gathered that although the interview was carried out, the publication made about him in that regard was an absolute misrepresentation.
“On the energy of the above, the CP needs to state emphatically that the publication is a misrepresented information that has no base or backing, therefore, the Command is searching for a greater collaboration with the press and most of the people within the propagation of correct data.
“Whereas the Command would proceed to place in place safety equipment to additional strengthen the safety structure and relative peace being loved within the State, the CP urges one and all to not desist from being legislation abiding residents within the State, however continuously supporting the Police with credible and well timed data as the most effective is being achieved in nipping crime within the bud and bringing insecurity to the barest minimal.”
