The newly elected Senator representing Imo North senatorial district, Chukwuma Frank Ibezim has been sworn in.
He was elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress in a bye-election.
His election was a topic of controversy till the Supreme Courtroom delivered judgment in his favour on Monday, fifth April, 2021.
In arriving at its resolution, the apex court docket in a unanimous judgment voided, nullified and put aside the concurrent judgments of the Federal Excessive Courtroom in Abuja and that of the Courtroom of Enchantment which nullified the candidacy of Ibezim on the bottom of perjury.
Justice Emmanuel Agim who delivered the judgment held that the go well with which led to disqualification of Ibezim for allegedly supplying false data to safe nomination was statute barred on the time it was instituted.
Justice Agim mentioned within the judgment that the go well with was not filed inside 14 days when the reason for motion arose.
Reacting to Senator Ibezim’s oath of allegiance, Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan mentioned, “Imo North is totally represented we want him a sturdy illustration.”
Ibezim took over from the late Senator Benjamin Uwajumogun who died in November 2019.
