The Nigeria Union of Lecturers, NUT, has threatened to withdraw all lecturers’ companies within the affected states of the federation as a result of insecurity within the nation.

NUT in an announcement tagged:” Terrorist Assault on Faculties and Abduction of College students/Lecturers One Incident Too Many”, signed by its Basic Secretary, Dr Mike Ike Ene, suggested the federal authorities to undertake a special strategy in tackling insecurity within the nation.

The Union expressed worries over the growing state of insecurity in Nigeria, stressing that colleges are quick turning into a hazard spot for bandits and different legal parts in Nigeria.

NUT stated this as they condemned the kidnapping of scholars and lecturers of Authorities Science Secondary College, Kagara, in Niger State by bandits.

The union demanded a state of emergency be declared on safety, including that the present strategy being deployed by safety companies was not yielding any significant fruit.

“We name on the Federal Authorities to as a matter of urgency declare a state of emergency on the safety state of affairs within the nation.

““We should warn that if the safety state of affairs in our colleges and faculties is just not assured, the NUT won’t hesitate to withdraw the companies of all lecturers within the affected states of the federation.”

NUT opined that the present technique deployed by safety companies has fallen in need of expectation contemplating that the Kagara abduction has simply occurred whereas the nation is but to completely cope with the December, 2020 abduction of scholars in Authorities Science Secondary College Kankara Katsina state.

The union demanded that the federal government deploys its full weight of our nation’s safety companies to make sure the secure return of kidnapped college students and lecturers.

“Moreover steps should be taken to eradicate all types of safety threats to our colleges.

“Such legal parts haven’t any place in a civilized society resembling Nigeria.

“We want to reiterate that instructing and studying can solely be assured in a security and secured ambiance,” the assertion added.

NUT suggested state governors to make use of a part of their safety voters to make use of alternate safety companies to enrich present safety companies in policing colleges within the state.
