The police have launched a manhunt after eight prisoners escaped from holding cells in eMaXesibeni police station on Saturday night.
Japanese Cape police additionally made it identified that the escaped prisoners are very harmful.
On Monday morning, the provincial police spokesperson, Brig Tembinkosi Kinana, stated the prisoners have been awaiting trial for severe offences together with homicide and rape.
“The police heard a giant knock from the cells and, as they responded to it, they discovered one prisoner who reported that prisoners had escaped from the opposite cells.”
“On inspection of the cells, the police found that iron bars and home windows from the cell have been broken and eight awaiting trial prisoners had already escaped,” stated Kinana.
