The agrarian neighborhood of Akunu-Akoko in Akoko South West Native Authorities Space of Ondo State was over the weekend held within the jugular by kidnappers.
The abductors who have been armed to the tooth had kidnapped some travellers in the neighborhood and whisked them into the bush after sporadic gunshots to scare residents.
Nonetheless, the gunshots didn’t deter hunters, vigilante teams and youths in the neighborhood as they launched a manhunt to rescue the travellers who have been seven in quantity.
With their information of the terrains of the neighborhood, the hunters and the vigilante have been stated to have caught up with the abductors who fired pictures at them.
Following the change of gunfire between the abductors and the hunters, one of many kidnappers was stated to have been killed which pressured the opposite gang members to desert their victims and take to their heels.
The travellers who have been on transit by way of the neighborhood to the northern a part of the nation have been stated to have been rescued unharmed.
In line with the regent of the city, Princess Tolani Orogun, when the information of the kidnapping of the travellers filtered into the city, the vigilante group in the neighborhood, hunters and youths swung into motion and began combing the forest in the direction of rescuing the travellers.
“The efforts of the courageous and brave group and youths yielded fruits as the abductors exchanged capturing with them.
“The gun duel led to the loss of life of 1 kidnaper whereas others fled. And the seven travellers have been rescued unharmed.”
Whereas confirming the event, the Police Space Commander for Ikare-Akoko, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Razak Rauf stated the stays of the useless kidnapper had been deposited within the mortuary of a public facility within the native authorities.
