The 32-year-old man from KZN disappeared from the Verulam police station on Thursday.

The police confirmed that he has been charged with escaping from lawful custody.

Based on safety firm Response Unit SA (Rusa), the alleged thief was arrested for theft in Oaklands.

The alleged thief who escaped from custody was later present in a bushy space on Fairview Drive, close to Umhlanga.

Rusa in an announcement at present stated “the person was arrested yesterday by response officers in Oaklands after he broke right into a car on Amaan Circle.”

“He has beforehand been arrested for crimes relating to accommodate break-ins and theft and served a six-year sentence in Westville Jail,” stated Rusa in an announcement.

SAPS KZN spokesperson Capt Nqobile Gwala stated the runaway suspect has been rearrested and can face a further cost of escaping from lawful custody.
