Suspected hoodlums on Monday attacked a police checkpoint at Ikpe Annang junction in Essien Udim Native authorities of Akwa Ibom State killing one Police Inspector.
In response to an eyewitness, Nsibiet Idiong, the assault could possibly be a reprisal as hoodlums on bikes fired gunshots randomly on the officers who scampered for security leaving the Police Inspector contained in the van.
He defined, “The assault we consider is a reprisal case as a result of Police operatives have been terrorizing hoodlums, armed robbers and different classes of criminals within the neighbouring Native Authorities Areas of Essien Udim, Ikot Ekpene and Obot Akara.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko Macdon assured that swift investigation had since been ordered by the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Amiengheme Andrew.
