Tension in Bauchi community as youths, illegal tree fellers clash

Safety operatives comprising the police and the army on Sunday averted a possible massacre at Kurmi village in Burra district of Ningi Native Authorities Space of Bauchi State after they prevented a conflict between some members of the village, largely youths and a few unlawful tree fellers within the Burra forest.

Sources within the village knowledgeable journalists in Bauchi State that following the enactment of the legislation prohibiting and criminalising tree felling within the state, youths within the village tried to implement the legislation as they went into the forest and set ablaze the log of wooden illegally fell by some individuals.
