A fifty year-old lady who operated a journey company in Cape City has been discovered responsible of theft.
Crescenda Meyer, 50, was arrested after scamming a bunch that had plans of going to Zanzibar.
She was accused of stealing R214,000.
The Pretoria specialised industrial crimes’ courtroom discovered Meyer responsible of seven counts of theft.
Nationwide Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana mentioned “Meyer operated a journey company, Model Breakaway Journey, in Cape City.”
“In 2018, seven feminine complainants from Gauteng and their husbands requested Model Breakaway Journey companies to handle their group journey preparations to Zanzibar.”
“Meyer supplied the group with itineraries and invoices, and the group made funds individually.”
“Meyer took the cash and [loaned] it to her boyfriend.”
The group had been shocked after they had been advised on the airport that the bookings weren’t made.
“The group reported the matter to the police and Meyer was arrested in Cape City in June 2019,” mentioned Mahanjana.
Meyer pleaded responsible to fees of theft.
She will likely be sentenced on December 3.
